The Perfect Little Getaway...Confirmed!
This was our second stay at Eastman Cottage and it only confirmed that this will be our go-to getaway for years to come. Nothing beats the serenity of the location, the beautiful views, and a fully-stocked cottage that has everything you could possibly need. We loved reading by the fire, watching old movies, and enjoying delicious meals comfortably cooked in the kitchen. Jan does an amazing job communicating and ensuring you have everything you need for a perfect stay. We can't wait to come back!
Idyllic Getaway
I came to Eastman Cottage for a writing retreat and found it to be ideal for work and rejuvenation--natural beauty outside and creative energy inside.
Return Trip!
The Eastman Cottage is a place that I will continue to book. I frequent a couple different cottages a year in different locations across BC, and this one I make an effort to return. This year, I invited a couple friends to join me and they loved the place. The views are stunning, no matter what season you stay, and the cottage is quaint and inviting. I am most impressed by the details that Jan does not overlook. The place has everything you need to settle in and stay for weeks. Jan is great at communication, and will do what she can to ensure you have an enjoyable stay. I also appreciate that dogs are allowed to stay, and at a reasonable rate. My only concern with writing this review is that it will be harder for me to book it again in the future!
Beautiful spot
The location is lovely, with wonderful views, and is very quiet and private. The cabin is comfortable and has everything one could want. It's generously supplied with basic food items, paper goods, etc., with lots of thoughtful touches. We hiked on Mt. Gardner and around Killarney Lake and Cape Roger Curtis. We would have rented kayaks in Snug Cove, but it was too windy. We did swim off the rocks (need water shoes) at the cabin. We saw one seal, one otter, one eagle and many hummingbirds.
Owner Response
It was our pleasure to host you..........please be our guests again. Jan
Peaceful Retreat
We appreciated the location of the Eastman Cottage on its perch above Howe Sound and looking out to Hutt Island. We never tired of watching the ever-changing surface of the ocean, the appearing and disappearing seals and sea otters, as well as the majesty of the "local" bald eagle. Bowen Island provided a different walk everyday, and a lovely (albeit seasonly wet) 9 hole golf course. We found the Bowen Islanders welcoming and enjoyed learning a bit of the local history from the neighbours. Sitting at a table at Snug Cove with a coffee and treat while enjoying the sunshine was a favourite. The cottage is located such that we could choose to drive, walk, or cycle to Snug Cove to pick up the few groceries we needed.
Owner Response
Nancy, thank you for being such great guests. We would love to have you back in the future to enjoy Bowen once again. Jan
Exactly as advertised, if not a little better
The place is pretty much exactly as advertised. Very quiet and peaceful, so if that is what you are after I'd highly recommend.Charles / Jan, the place was great. Exactly as advertised, if not a little better. we lucked out with the weather which I'm sure made our stay even better. We would definitely stay again of we plan another getaway to Bowen.
The beds are extremely comfortable
I had a truly lovely short getaway to the Eastman Cottage. Jan was very communicative and provided me with lots of detailed information. The historic family cabin has all of the modern amenities I needed. The cottage is so cozy and full of nods to the family's history and artwork that it felt like I was borrowing a friend's cottage for the weekend. The beds are extremely comfortable and there were lots of extra blankets for cold nights. I appreciated all of the little touches to make the cottage feel like it was waiting for visitors including a stocked wood box, a flashlight by the door for early/late dog walks, plenty of towels, and a well equipped kitchen. The absolute best thing about the cottage is the view of the ocean and mountains. There are also lots of nice walks on Bowen that my dog and I took advantage of before putting our feet up and relaxing at the cottage. I look forward to coming back again soon.
Recent Visit to The Cottage
This cozy and rather quaint cottage was built in the 1950's and the location is very private and beautiful! The Owner has made many upgrades to the Cottage over time and it provides every comfort a guest would require. The Cottage is 100% genuine as represented by the photos on the website. EVERYTHING in the Cottage worked perfectly from the WiFi to the TV to the amazing Wood Stove which we enjoyed each of our 4 evenings at the property. The ocean is at your doorstep and the views are both peaceful and relaxing. The Eastman Waterfront Cottage is highly recommended - good value for a relaxing escape from everyday living!
I cannot say enough wonderful things about this cottage. We saw seals every morning and evening swimming in the bay, made great use of the wood burning stove, and enjoyed the stellar view from inside or out. Jan is a perfect host, providing you with all the info and amenities you need for a comfortable stay. We hated to leave and are eager to come back. Take advantage of all the hiking trails! Bowen Island is a lovely spot. Thank you so much for making our first trip to the island a memorable one.
The pictures say it all. The spot is very quiet at the end of the road and the views out to the Sunshine Coast and Mt Garibaldi stunned us every moment of the day. The house itself is pretty basic and we have sat in more comfortable furniture, but that was fine with us. This place is all about the view! We did some nice hikes and enjoyed the friendly atmosphere on the island. Top eats for us were Barcelona Tapas Bar and the Ruddy Potato for lunch.
The Eastman Cottage is a lovely, rustic spot on Bowen Island - from our deck, we saw a heron, deer, a family of geese, eagles, seals several times per day, hummingbirds and on our last morning the unique sighting of a family of Orcas about 150M away. Spent a week hiking Island trails, exploring local shops & restaurants, reading, talking, foraging, spotting deer, sea lions and slugs, staring at the ocean and napping. Feel completely refreshed and rejuvenated after an absolutely perfect holiday! This was our 3rd visit to BI and we are already booked to return next year!
Driveway could be challenge for some. Lots of rules, cleaning fee should be part of rental rate. Reminder of check out day and time day before checkout with rules reminder is an annoyance detracting from the relaxed ambience of the stay. Deposit fee should not apply to proven guests.
We loved our time on Bowen, and Eastman Cottage was the perfect spot from which to explore. Nicely appointed, comfortable, rustic and cabinny without trying too hard, with a serene position and gorgeous views. Jan’s helpful attention was thorough and thoughtful (fresh flowers are a lovely touch). We’ll be back, no question. Thanks!
This cottage met all our expectations and more. We were looking for a peaceful weekend to relax, explore Bowen Island and enjoy being out of the city. The place was beautifully clean when we arrived; it was chilly because it was a cold day but there is a wood fired Norwegian stove that gives out a lot of heat in addition to electric radiators. The kitchen was well equipped, the bed was comfortable and the view from the window in the main room was wonderful. We watched seals, gulls, a heron and then an eagle search for sea stars among the rocks at low tide. We were about 10 minutes drive from Snug Cove which was convenient for restaurants and shopping. Our favourite place though was Alderwood Farm where we bought freshly prepared butter chicken to take back to the cottage so we could sit and watch the sun set. We can also recommend Bowen Island Gym, only $10 for a drop-in on Saturday morning.
Beautiful location on the ocean, spectacular view from the deck and cabin. Inviting cozy cottage with warm bedding and interesting heritage to read. We were a party of four, my husband and myself and our two moms, so the twins beds were perfect for the moms. We enjoyed meals at the table for four staring out the window at the water, we even enjoyed completing a 500 piece puzzle in the evening with the wood stove crackling in the background. We saw many birds, a seal and the last morning we saw dolphins in the distant. Relaxing place to unwind for a few days.
This is an amazing cottage. Clean, safe, secure, well-maintained, and everything in perfect working order. It had all we were looking for and more. Privacy, scenery, amenities, delicious restaurants, and lots to do on Bowen Island. We will be back!
My Husband and I stayed at the Eastman Cottage for 5 days. We found the location and amenities amazing. The cottage was the perfect size for us. It had everything we needed and more. The view alone was worth the whole trip. Jan was very responsive throughout the process from booking the cottage to taking care of a request during our stay. We even had a seal stop by everyday to say hi! It was a fantastic experience.
My wife and I have stayed at several cottages in various places in BC, and this is by far the most amazing place we have ever stayed at! The cottage is very clean, convenient and has everything you need for a wonderful stay. Aside from being very comfortable, it also radiates of history and charm, with beautiful artwork by the original owners who lived here 100 years ago. Even more reason to stay here is the location and the most beautiful views you will ever see in your life! Words and even pictures can never do it justice, the views simply have to be seen in person to believe. If you stay here you will have the most relaxing experience of your life, alone with nature and with complete privacy to enjoy the peace and quiet and most stunning scenary one can ever dream of.
This beautiful simple cabin fit my needs perfectly. The host was kind and responsive, and everything was there that I needed. The view is stunning (as you can see from the photos) and there was one softer single bed I could sleep on (the other beds are very firm). It was a perfect fit for quiet solo time. The only improvement I could suggest would be to say on the site that google maps doesn't take you to the address, and then to ensure the outside motion sensor light on the cabin works. I arrived at night and initially had a hard time bringing my things in, in the pitch black. Once inside it was fine! It's quite expensive but was exactly what I needed.
This is a pretty fine spot--easy and quick (but fun) to get to but feels quite a ways out there. The cottage is small but efficient and generally well-equipped. Not really any luxuries, but very comfy and big windows (and the view) make it feel spacious. Furnishings are cute, quaint, and cozy. Really a nice getaway spot. We also appreciated the fact that we were able to bring our dog, who had a grand time (and was a fun companion). It was fun to watch the ferries float by, the seals play off the rocks, and the fog drift among the high ridges across the bay/channel.
We love this little cottage. It's small cut comfortable, and the big windows and view make feel bigger. We watched seals play out front, ferries slide back and forth, various birds cavort, and low clouds move among the high ridges across the water. The cottage has not real "luxuries," but everything works well, and the place is well appointed/stocked. It's also very easy to get to from Vancouver (or WA state, if you plan around rush hour) but feels pretty far out there. Bowen Island has some nice trails, which are very well maintained and signed, so it's a pleasant place to explore. Being able to bring the dog here was a plus also.
From the excellent directions, Welcome Kit, attention to detail and, of course, the incredible views our Eastman Cottage experience was everything we had hoped for and more! We had to re-schedule our trip due to a health issue in the family and Jan was more than accommodating to allow us to do that. In all of our communications with her, she was most professional, easy to access with rapid responses. Thanx, Jan! The Eastman Cottage really has to be experienced to fully appreciate the views, the exceptional quiet, and the fully-equipped home-away-from-home amenities. We wanted for nothing, which is exceptional in a rental unit! Our small dog was in heaven watching the birds and gulls fly by, too. To sum up: We are searching our calendars for our next return trip . . . .
Cozy log cabin with a stunning waterfront view
This little cottage is the perfect way to feel like you're "getting away", without actually having to go that far. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you need for a home cooked meal, the living room was complete with a little TV, board games, and books, and the ocean view from the patio was absolutely stunning. You can even climb down (carefully) to the water if you want to get a better view of the occasional passing seal. Bowen Island offers a few easy hikes and cute shops to check out, and the neighbourhood pubs have friendly staff and good food.
The cottage was just as we remembered it from 3 years ago. It's a perfectly maintained rustic abode with a cozy feel about it. Very comfortable, well equipped and functional. The smell of the cedar plank walls is just great. But the best aspect is the absolutely beautiful panoramic ocean view from the kitchen table, the living room couch or chair, from anywhere on the cottage wide deck or out on the grassy rock front of the property. We spent quite a lot of our two day stay at the cottage sitting out onthe deck. We watched the seals pop up and splash and saw plenty of boats go by in the channel. Ferries powered their way out past Hutt Island and we sat and read our books. We loved the quiet and peace of it. The morning of our second day was quite windy. From the deck you could hear the wind blowing through the forest on Hutt Island across the channel. What a stirring experience to feel nature in that way. One pleasing point about the place is that because of the cottage's location (surrounded by trees except on the ocean side) the main bedroom is absolutely dark at night. On day one we went to our favourite beach on the west side of Bowen and the second day "found" another, much smaller beach that was perfect for us. We visited a cafe at the Artisan's Village, ate dinner at Captain Morgan's, did a little walking around the Snug Harbour village. Overall it was a very, very good two day stay. Wish we could have been able to make it longer so we could see more of the island and spend more time at the cottage. The island has much to offer and we would recommend the cottage to anyone.
serenity
We were looking for a relaxing place to unwind for a few days with our 2 dogs. We happened upon this place, and are so glad that we did. The cottage is like a small slice of the 50`s; it was homey and comfortable. We enjoyed reading about the original owners. And the spectacular view! We spent a lot of time on the deck, soaking up the peace and serenity. The shore was a bit too rugged for our dogs to be able to swim there, though we did find a good beach on the other side of Bowen. I brought a long a few painting supplies, and very much enjoyed painting the view (in the presence of Antonia Eastman`s original paintings hanging on the walls) while my husband went running up Mt Gardner. If you are looking for a luxury penthouse suite, this place is not for you; but if you are looking for a private place with amazing oceanscapes to relax and unwind, definitely check this out.
This place is like a lost piece of magic that has survived into our century. When the sun hung low in the sky and the wind tickled the golden grass to sound of the waves I almost cried. I've never been a part of a moment more beautiful. There was a hummer that would come say hello every morning. Seals playing and slapping their tails just off the shore. A young buck ate salal berries beside the deck. So close I could have touched the fuzz of his new antlers. At the third hour of the morning I woke up to the site of the big dipper hanging low over hut island as if prepairing to scoop the shaddows from the trees. This was a vacation of the soul as much as body. If you decide to visit this place book as much time as you can. I booked 3 nights the first year, 5 nights the second and I next year I plan on booking even longer. There is no such thing as too long at the Eastman waterfront.
Peaceful, classic old cabin in the woods on the edge of a big tall rock overlooking the ocean with a wonderful view from the south shore of the Sunshine Coast to the northwest, to Howe Sound and the Tantalus Range in the distance to the northeast. Plus a lovely Island to explore - hiking, paddling, boating, great food. Very comfortable for the two of us, (plus a guest for a few days). Easy access to Vancouver a plus for us visiting BC. A very private site just around the bend from a public pier access point, and a short drive to Killarney Lake hiking trail.
What a beautiful spot. If you are looking for a place to get away from it all this is it. Quiet, peaceful and relaxing. Breathe in all that fresh air and unwind. I didn't want to leave and have already booked a return stay.
My husband and I look for those special hidden gems when we travel our beautiful Province. We sure found one here. After a very busy few months at work, we needed a quick escape. Finding Eastman Cottage was perfect - comfort, privacy and a spectacular view. We brought in all our own food so we could hunker down and relax, but did venture out for a tour of Bowen Island and lunch at the Snug Cafe. We spent hours watching the wildlife play in the water from the chairs on the patio while we read and "chilled out". All of the necessities were in the kitchen to cook and bbq our meals. The cottage was spotless. It was a perfect 3 day mini-vacation and we immediately booked our next stay for October. We highly recommend this spot as a perfect romantic getaway.
From the moment I set foot in this adorable little cabin, I was flooded with the scent of cedar. What a wonderful smell! And then that view: it was breath taking! The entire back of the cabin is outfitted with windows that allow you a perfect view out to the ocean. It is also perfectly situated to catch the sunset (at least during the month of June). We saw a lot of wildlife activity as well. Tons of sea lions, a few eagles and even a deer. I brought my parents here for a little R&R and that is precisely what this place is built for. The cabin was well stocked and very clean. When we arrived, there was a brand new stove installed, and in general, the place looks like it is kept up with care. Jan, the manager, was very responsive and forwarded me a very detailed welcome package, outlining everything we needed to know about the cabin and the island itself. There are some great hikes nearby that we took advantage of, but on the rainy days, we were happy to stay put and play cards or a couple rounds of trivial pursuit :) All in all, it was a wonderful little getaway from the city. Would love to come back here again, and would highly recommend to others.
I am almost hesitant to write this review, as I would like to keep this a secret! This is such a little jewel of a place, and so very close to Vancouver. It is cozy, very comfortable (great shower, great beds, wonderful reading couch by the window overlooking heaven, all that you need in the kitchen), with a breathtaking view, the afternoon sun shining directly on the beautiful deck, eagles and seals spying on you... We rented this for three people and the space was just perfect. I hope to come back soon!
My partner and I had the most spectacular stay at the cabin. Daily, we were treated to the sounds and sights of wildlife and could not get enough of the magnificent ocean view. Our puppy also loved his time playing in the water and running through the trails. This rental is a true catch and provides the perfect getaway to rejuvenate the soul and mind. We look forward to visiting again.
The cottage was quaint and homey with a beautiful view. The snow capped mountains were gorgeous. We were able to watch cruise ships sailing by every evening. No whales or seals but maybe next time. Enjoyed our stay and would recommend to anyone wanting to get away from it all. The town of Snug Bay is cute and the people are so friendly!
My girlfriend and I stayed for a week in early May. The cabin was comfortable and quiet. The view was great and we spent many hours just sitting out above the rocks and looking at the water, mountains, clouds, sunsets, stars, etc.. We saw seals, otters, eagles, herons and more. Initially we planned to go back to Vancouver for a day or two but ended up staying on Bowen Island because we liked it there. There were several nice restaurants, pubs, and stores. I would love to go back someday.
My Mom and I stayed at the Eastman cabin for a couple of nights and had a wonderful stay. So much marine life to see and the views are outstanding. We also loved the feel of the cabin and would definitely return!
My husband and I stayed here with our dog for an extended weekend to celebrate our anniversary. Eastman Cottage was perfect! Excellent location, stunning views, well appointed cabin with all we needed to cozy up and enjoy the moody, stormy weather. We would definitely stay here again!
This cottage is in the most peaceful and naturally beautiful location! The cottage was cozy and so comfortable with all the necessary amenities. We enjoyed cooking our own meals while marveling at the wildlife and scenery from the rustic dining table looking out over Howe Sound. During the cold evenings we nestled in warm blankets on the couch and watched Netflix movies on our computer and read. Hiking during the daytime and birdwatching galore! Will be back!!
We loved out stay here. It rained everyday (it was mid March) but it didn't even matter. We still went for 3 runs and a couple of hikes in our 5 night stay. The pictures, whilst amazing, don't do it justice. If you're looking for an idyllic getaway, then this is the spot for you. We'll definitely be back!
A great and quiet location to just sit back & relax; to enjoy the views & watching the wildlife. The cottage is small but has everything you need for a few days. Interesting family history is shared with the visitors of the cabin. A lovely place on a lovely island!
We spent three snowy days at Eastman Cottage. It was peaceful and relaxing and the waterfront view is absolutely spectacular. The cottage itself is small but charming and comfortable, perfect for a couple or a family with small children. We explored snug harbor and it's shops and marina and went snowshoeing up Mt. Gardner. The entire trip was a great getaway in a lovely spot. Would love to go back in the summer and get out on the water. As a note of caution, the driveway is quite steep so having all wheel drive is helpful in bad weather.
The property was unforgettable to me. It was simple but so cozy and comfortable. My fiancé cooked as I read and our fur babies were so relaxed. We will be returning but maybe in the summer, the water looked much to tempting.
We enjoyed our stay in this cozy cabin. Through the windows along the front of the cabin, we gazed at the changing sea and sky, seals, sea birds, and boats. We walked along the road to the nearby public wharf and beach. When the weather broke we drove and explored some of the many beaches along the island's shores. The cabin includes some family history, art and heirlooms which add to the ambience and charm. I highly recommend this spot as a relaxing getaway.
I came to the cabin during Snowpocalypse and had a wonderful stay. The unusual snowy weather presented a few challenges which Jan helped solved immediately. I wanted a quiet place to get some work done. Sitting in front of the large windows overlooking the ocean definitely made working much more enjoyable. I saw some eagles, a seal, 4 shooting stars (I was there during a meteor shower), and a 1,000 year old tree by the name of Opa. I recommend this spot if you're looking to stay somewhere cozy and off the beaten path.
In order to preserve it for future visits, I'd almost rather not boast about my experience at the Eastman Cottage. But this remote little place is incredible. Situated on a private cliff overlooking Howe Sound, you couldn't feel further from Vancouver, while still being only an hour away. We left work on a Friday afternoon during rush hour at 5 pm and two hours later we were sitting down to a home cooked dinner at the cottage. It's so private that we didn't encounter a single person aside from our strolls down to the nearby beaches. Our dog loved leaping off the rocks and into the ocean and swimming with the otters and seals. We enjoyed sitting taking in the sweeping vistas from the deck or from the comfort of the cabin. It was warm, cozy, and well equipped--we can't wait to come back.
Our stay in the rustic Eastman cottage was quite delightful. It has an interesting family history which makes you feel connected to Bowen life. A great place to sit wrapped in a blanket watching the ever changing ocean. We were treated to a display of frolicking seals while we sipped our morning coffee on the deck. We would come back again.
My girlfriend and I were looking for a Sunshine Coast get-a-way in an authentic style cabin. While looking through Google, everywhere offered more of a bed and breakfast/house addition location. We came across the Eastman Cottage and we're glad we did. This setting was by the far the best experience I could have hoped for. The cute little property on a rocky bluff overlooked the inlet and surrounding coastlines. The area is secluded, quiet, and authentic. The cottage itself has beautiful cedar paneling, laminate flooring, with a perfectly laid out inner décor. The authentic image is what created this two night experience for my girlfriend and I and we loved coming "home" to our cabin. Coffee on the deck in the mornings will be the fond memory we will always cherish. We travelled to the Artisan Village for lunch and browsing after our walk around Killarney Lake just a hop, skip, and a jump away. We'll definitely return and suggest this cabin to anyone.

We are so glad that you enjoyed the Eastman Waterfront Cottage. We agree, it is so quiet, peaceful, and authentic......a true vacation for all of our guests. We would love to have you again. Thank you so much for sharing your Cottage experience....futures guests will certainly appreciate your kind words. Best, Jan and Charles.
This little cottage on the water in the woods is the ideal getaway for those looking for the perfect natural setting and quiet beauty. It is a charming place finished in pine and cedar and has a well equipped kitchen. We really enjoyed our stay
Owner Response
Brien, thank you so much for taking your time to leave kind words. The Eastman Waterfront Cottage does excel at privacy, quiet, and all nestled in a natural setting on the water.
We loved every minute at the Eastman cabin. It is conveniently located, has the most spectacular view and all the amenities you need for a stay. It has so much character and we loved reading about the family and the history of the island. We wish we had been there during warmer months so we could take a swim but loved exploring the rocky outcropping below the cabin and seeing starfish and seals in the water. Will absolutely return as soon as we can - a wonderful place!
Lovely little place with all the basics. Tidy, nice decor. Killer ocean view. The private rocky point and view from the deck was my favourite part about the place; not the best for swimming, but swimming is possible if you don't mind navigating the rocks (which I don't). Moreover, the property is about a 3 minute walk from an awesome public wharf that one can post up at or jump into the ocean. It's a little tight using the shower in the wet room/bathroom, but it gets the job done, and the openness of the deck and main room more than make up for it. A romantic spot with a unique vantage point from Bowen looking out into the Sound.
The view is amazing, furnished with almost everything one could need tho' another easy chair would have been great. Kitchen is very useable . Details for the key retrieval and drop off were very good and easy to follow. Beds comfortable.
The beautifully decorated, cedar scented and comfortable cabin has a wall of windows facing out to a remarkable panoramic views of the ocean and surrounding islands. We saw seals hanging out and several deer around the property including a curious buck who gave us a startle but continued eating grass undisturbed by us. The decor is a mix of old and new with hand painted furniture but new granite counter tops and deep sink. The patio juts out over a sloping cliff to the water where we sat with cozy blankets watching jaw dropping sunsets. As mentioned in the arrival information, the sloping, gravel driveway is difficult to manoeuvre with out 4-wheel drive so it's important to heed this warning. That being said, the cabin is located at the very end of a long road without access to transit so a vehicle is necessary. The garbage and compost removal instructions were extremely detailed which wasn't difficult for us as Vancouverites, but is something to give a good read through. We were on the island for a wedding so did not get to explore the island too much so would love to return in the fall to enjoy the changing leaves and explore some of the hikes.

Thank you for being our guests, Jen. So love that you were treated to a visit by Bucky.....he runs the neighbourhood. A few of our guests have experienced whales in the channel out front too.......next time!!!. Yes, for sure, the Municipality does require trash separation and it can be a challenge for travelers that are required to do so in their home cities. Just so there is no confusion......the driveway does not require AWD or 4WD. Access is easy with a 2WD vehicle. Love to have you back another time when you can truly sit back and enjoy the natural setting of the Eastman Waterfront Cottage.
Had a lovely time here with my husband and daughter. A little slice of paradise. Can't beat the view, it was so nice to eat dinner infront of the big window looking out to the ocean. Love swimming off the rocks, don't forget your your water shoes!
Owner Response
Rachel, thank you for taking your time to share your Eastman Waterfront Cottage experience. So glad that you were able to take advantage of the Private swimming "beach" off of the rock slope out front of the cottage. Great advice to bring beach shoes, highly recommended. Love to have you return. Best, Jan and Charles.
This was the best get away of my life. Everyone that I dealt with getting the rental was extremely friendly and helpful and the locals create a very laid back atmosphere. Plus its a very private and quiet location even though there are houses beside you. I'm already trying to book off time next year so that I can go again for a longer visit!
Owner Response
Leila, we loved having you as our guest and are happy to welcome you back next summer too. The Eastman Cottage is a very special place especially considering the privacy and its charming character surrounded by nature. Thank you so much for taking your time to leave a review and we will welcome you again next summer. Jan and Charles
The cottage is situated right on the water and the views are incredible! I truly hope we can come back during the summer months to take advantage of this gorgeous location and jump into the water in our backyard! The space is comfortable and big enough for a family of four. Thumbs up!!
We enjoyed a wonderful three days at the cottage soaking in the incredible view, making delicious meals, and walking on the island's many trails. Our dog also had a blast swimming from the rocks in front of the cabin. A wonderful retreat! We hope to be back.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Eastman Cottage. A lovely comfortable space that sparked creativity, contemplation and connection. The inner cabin is cozy and the view allows you interact with all the wildlife and changing light of the day from the warmth of the cabin even on cool winter days. And it was a quick trip back into town for a delicious dinner at the Tuscany restaurant.
AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME cottage and spectacular view. The food at both Bowen Island pub and Doc Morgan was very good with more spectacular views of Snug Cove. The hikes at Killarney Lake, Bridal Veil Waterfalls and Salmon Ladder, plus Dorman Point, through the West Coast Rainforest, was another highlight of our stay on Bowen Island. I wish we would of stayed 3 nights so that we could of seen explored more of this retreat called Eastman Waterfront Cottage and Bowen Island. Loved the stay and really enjoyed the very dark night time heavens. If we ever travel back to Bowen Island we will definitely stay at Eastman Waterfront Cottage. I have recommended the cottage to an acquaintance of mine.
We loved our stay at Eastman cottage. The owners were particularly excellent at communication beforehand and addressed any questions I had immediately. The place was spotless and had everything we needed for a cozy self-sufficient stay. The deck was particularly nice for watching a meteor shower. Beautiful and peaceful.
Loved all the history and paintings in the cottage. Walking was great on Bowen, even if it was a little cold and wet. As most people mentioned, the view was amazing. The books and music was a lovely surprise.
We had 5 days in the Vancouver area and wanted both a city and a wilderness experience. The Eastman cabin fit the bill perfectly! The rustic and super comfy cabin sits on the north west side of the island and has amazing views of other islands, hills, mountains and an amazing snow-capped craggy peak in the distance. We brought our 7 month old so were up early to watch the sun rise each morning. Watching the early light warm up the various faces of the mountains, hills and water was truly special. We watched otters play just off of the rocks in front of the cabin and bald eagles soar over the water. We went on several walks/hikes/jogs in the area. There is something for all activity levels, including a day hike up Mt. Gardner. Since we visited in February, we did not swim (brrrr), but read many entries in the guest book of folks who said that swimming off of the rocks was a highlight. Instead, we built fires, BBQed on the deck and cozied up and read. Also many great bars and restaurants at the harbor if you want to be more interactive. We would definitely recommend this special cabin.
This is a a very nice cottage to stay on the North-West coast of Bowen Isl with fantastic views. Rustic but cozy, steeped in history with photos of Mr McNeill's grandparents (the Eastmans) from about 100 yrs back and hand painted furniture by his grandmother. There is a great coffee table book about Bowen's history to read up on. The cottage sits on Eastman Pt just south of Galbraith Bay where there's a beach. You can also walk down to the rocks from the cottage and jump in, wait for the summer though! As for the fantastic view, directly ahead sits Hutt Island, off to the right is Gambier, off to the left in the distance is Langdale from where the ferry heads off to Horseshoe Bay passing behind Hutt Island. Thank you for a Wonderful Stay.
This little cottage truly is a gem. It's private, quiet, peaceful and filled with everything one might need to feel at home.. walking through the door for the first time and smelling cedar put a smile on my face. Finding it was very easy, the directions provided led us directly to it (even in the dark!). It's a very well equipped cottage, loved reading the history of Bowen and the cabin. The deck and the view are certainly highlights, morning coffee and every meal was enjoyed outside looking out over the water, across the bay to the islands and sunshine coast. Nights are SO quiet, so peaceful and so many stars! Best sleeps ever. If you're looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle, this place is perfect.
This was a charming cottage and an excellent place for reflection. I hope to return for future visits when on corporate business and for time away for strategic preparation and renewal.
The solitude of the Eastman Cottage was just what I needed. And the view was absolutely captivating. When I wasn't fully engrossed in reading, it was a treat to just curl up in one of the chairs on the deck while snuggled under a warm Hudson's Bay blanket, and watch the marine life, including listening to the prehistoric-sounding call of blue herons, and the hypnotic sound of the waves lapping at the shoreline. The appearance of nearby Hutt Island reminded me of a big fat hamburger, rising out of the ocean. And the Langdale ferry, sailing by at night, all lit up, looked like a little city floating past. After sunset, the sky glittered with millions of stars and I was lucky enough to see one shooting star. On the first evening, I was delighted to watch a baby harbour seal while it waited on the rocks for its mother, who had apparently gone fishing. It was the cutest thing; yawning and stretching and fanning its tail; big round, soulful eyes watching everything. And not only that, but it became even more interesting when a heron happened by and the two were checking each other out! The bed was incredibly cozy; I haven't had a more restful sleep in ages. The aroma of the cedar walls was comforting, as was the rustic decor. This will not be my last stay at the Eastman Cottage. It was heavenly!

Davina, you must be a creative writer!! You have painted a picture with words describing your most relaxing stay at the Eastman Waterfront Cottage. We are excited to host you again in April. A sure sign that the cottage has fulfilled your needs to be peaceful, restful, and immersed in nature. Thank you so much for being our guest.
My husband and I stayed in the cottage for two nights with my sister and my brother-in-law. We couldn't choose a better time to have a peaceful and relaxing time in Bowen Island. The view from the balcony is even better than what you see in the photos. The place was clean and cozy with everything you need for a perfect retreat. One minor thing was that we would have loved to have a better access for swimming in the sea from the property, but the public beach was just around the corner and we took advantage of that. We also explored other public beaches in the island and spent lots of time in the water. We will definitely be back and might even try different seasons. Thank you for sharing this lovely cottage with us.
Our family of four recently stayed in the lovely Eastman cottage and we could not have been happier with our visit. The listing description and photos are accurate -- the cottage is very comfortable and the view is breathtaking. Our four-year-old raved that this is "his favourite cabin in the whole world" and the living room is "stupendous"! The bedrooms worked perfectly for us, our two young kids loved sleeping together in the room with twin beds. Parents of young children may wish to note that the bathroom contains a shower, no tub... but we put a rubbermaid tote in the shower area and filled it with some water to give our kids a bath there, which worked perfectly. As has been noted in other reviews, the location is wonderful, a short drive from Snug Cove but feels like you are very secluded. We really enjoyed the glimpse into the past via the old family photos on the bookshelf, it was really interesting to see pictures from the site so many decades ago. This is a truly special spot and we certainly hope to return.
Website accurately portrays what you get. Cottage is rustic and comes with documentation of familly history. View is 10/10 with no neighbours in sight and lots of sea activity to watch. Cottage is sturdy and well equiped, good heating and cooling systems, ample hot water. The kitchen is very basic. I would recommend relying on food that you brought yourself or dining out. Exchange of information professional and timely. Owner seems very sympathetic. Enjoy!

Scott, thank you so much for your helpful review. We always appreciate our guests feedback (raving or a constructive critiique) on our properties……this is how we improve and make your next stay even better. We are pleased to know that you appreciated our recent upgrades: wall and floor insulation plus wall heaters in every room. Our goal was to provide a warm and cozy cottage no matter the season. We have had reports that “the kids are pattering around the cottage in their bare feet” which we know is a comfortable improvement. The recently tiled bathroom and shower is fresh, new and bright and as you say, “has plenty of hot water.” We will get the photos posted this week of the new bathroom…….a VERY welcome improvement. We are pleased to know that the cottage is as expected which means we have designed our listing accurately. We always want our guests to have realistic expectations: private and secluded cottage on the water with sea views north to south. It is great to know that our kitchen is represented accurately as well…..simple, small and 1950’s authentic. Trust that your kitchen feedback will be taken to heart and as time progresses we will definitely add improvements. Thank you so much for being our guest and we hope to have you return. Best to you, Jan and Charles.
My husband and our two dogs wanted to escape the city for New Years but not go too far. We were so pleased with our stay at Eastman Waterfront Cottage! It was a perfect place to bring in 2014. This cottage was quaint, clean, cozy, and very charming. We loved the old wood stove to cook on as well as the vintage fridge. This cottage was just perfect to unwind, detach and be one with nature. Simple. The view of the ocean was fantastic, as well as the surrounding forests that tucked you in every night. In the evening we could watch the stars on the deck with our dogs. They were very happy to romp around in the forest too. There's a lovely beach near by so we walked there so our girls could play in the water. I love how close this cottage is from the hustle and bustle of the city but you get transported back in time where it's totally peaceful. We look forward to returning soon Jan, you were so great with everything :)

Cinci, we are so happy that you enjoyed all the special features of the Eastman Waterfront Cottage: the authentic 1950’s kitchen, the comfortable and casual cabin, the quiet, the surrounding trees, and the beach just steps from the door. We appreciate and thank you for being a GREAT guest.
We stayed in the cottage to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. The cottage was clean, dry and well maintained. The lovely smell of cedar scented the air. The double bed was very comfortable, we slept peacefully. Linens and towels were fresh. Living room furniture was comfortable. Kitchen was well equipped, we found everything we needed. Enjoyed the great ocean view with my breakfast from the kitchen table. Excellent deck and spectacular view. Sunsets are breathtaking with a glass of wine in hand. Cozy and inviting, we had a relaxing, romantic weekend. Owners family featured in history of Bowen Island, enjoyed reading material provided. Owner also provides printout with helpful information for cottage. We would highly recommend and look forward to our next visit.

Hi Denise, we hope you return to anniversary your lovely stay. We have renovated the cottage since you were our guest and we think you will love the new tiled washroom and shower plus the insulated laminate flooring and new energy efficient wall heaters........come and visit us again soon. Jan & Charles.
One of the Best Experiences Ever
By far one of the best Airbnb experiences I have ever had. Such a beautiful setting overlooking the water and Hutt Island. Witnessed some magnificent sunrises and sunsets over the mountains from the deck. Cottage has everything you would need for a comfortable stay, would love to return again sometime soon.
Idyllic Place
What an idyllic place! Opening the door, you are greeted with the smell of cedar. When you see the view, it is breathtaking. Every time I came into the living room, it was magic all over again. Such a cozy, welcoming, warm atmosphere and feel. Loved sitting on the deck watching the wildlife and the ferries. The beds are really comfortable and the comforters were lush and cozy. Soft blankets everywhere for snuggling up. Would love to return!
Quintessential BC Coastal Escape
Charles' heritage family cottage is a cozy, quiet, quintessential, BC coastal escape. It's the perfect mix of low-tech/vintage (think: jigsaw puzzles and board games) and modern touches (very reliable Wifi and lovely bedding). Though it's just a 30-minute drive and a 20-minute ferry ride from downtown Vancouver, it feels like you've escaped much farther from the city. While it's no doubt lovely in the summer, it's absolutely a charming place to spend a few days tucked in during BC rainy winter season.
Our Stay Was Amazing
Whoa! Our stay at the Eastman Cottage was amazing. The cottage was just as described, and just like the photos, but the view... that was something that can only be experienced in person. Even in the middle of November, we were still able to enjoy everything Bowen Island has to offer. We wrapped ourselves up in the warm blankets that were waiting for us, and sat on the deck while reading and watching the seals pop their heads up, just feet from us. The beds were super comfortable, and the sound of the ocean at night was just what we needed for our weekend getaway from the city. Already making plans to come back in the summer - would definitely recommend the cottage to a couple or small family, looking to relax. Cheers!
A Magical Place
We had the most wonderful weekend! A truly magical place steeped in history and charm. Very comfortable and idyllic. Wish we didn't live on the opposite side of the planet! Would so love to come back for longer. Thank you.
A Great Experience
We actually got this for our girls on their birthday. They told us they had a lovely stay in the little cabin on the water. They read books while looking out of the ocean. They went for crisp winter walks and enjoyed tea on the balcony as the sun coming was up over the mountains. Overall, they said it was a great experience and I look forward to going there as well. Thank you to Charles and Jan.
Adorable Cabin
What a perfect place to spend a long weekend! My parents were in town visiting so my husband and I surprised them with a mini-vacation within a vacation. The cottage was absolutely adorable with a charming and homey feel. Despite the rain, we still took advantage of the grill and morning coffee on the porch. The views were incredible. I definitely recommend the cottage and would love to rebook next time we visit.
Relax with your feet up
A beautiful place to put your feet up, read a book or enjoy the ocean :)
Stunning Views
Absolutely perfect. The cottage is well appointed with a stunning view that would never get old. Located in a relatively private part of Bowen Island for a quiet getaway. Check in and out was seamless. Best Airbnb experience we have had. Highly recommended.
Secluded Location
This place is just amazing! The location is secluded and offers amazing views. The cabin has everything you need to have a fantastic vacation.
A Rich Historical Experience
This historic cabin greets you with a treed forest upon approach, in which the cedar cabin is nestled, with a stunning view of the channel and Hutt Island. The history of the property is displayed in photographs and some of the cabin's furniture is part of that history. This added richness to the experience, and provided a base for funding out more about the island's past.
Stunning View & Cozy Interior
This cabin was everything we had hoped for and more! From the resident seal who greeted us upon our arrival to the absolutely stunning view & cozy interior. The weekend was fabulous & we will definitely be back!
Ocean Front with Spectacular Views
Beautiful location on the ocean, spectacular view from the deck and cabin. Inviting cozy cottage with warm bedding and interesting heritage to read. We were a party of four, my husband and myself and our two moms, so the twins beds were perfect for the moms. We enjoyed meals at the table for four staring out the window at the water, we even enjoyed completing a 500 piece puzzle in the evening with the wood stove crackling in the background. We saw many birds, a seal and the last morning we saw dolphins in the distant. Relaxing place to unwind for a few days
Heaven
Slice of Heaven on Bowen Island !! My wife , myself and our dog loved it ! 10 out of 10
Rich Family Historical Cabin
This is a comfortable, cozy cabin with a rich family history at the end of a public road. It is the rocks with an incredible view of the ocean. It was very peaceful and no noise other than birdsong and seals playing in the ocean. So relaxing to sit in the red Adirondack chairs gaziing out at the breathtaking view. Part of the deck is covered so you can sit outside even when it's raining wrapped up in a blanket. We launched our kayaks from the public dock down the road and explored the coastline; ran to and around Killarney Lake and back (10 km loop); hiked Valhalla. Also launched kayaks off Tunstall beach. It rained every day but the afternoons and evenings were perfect and the sunsets stunning. So much to do and explore. We ordered take out twice from Doc Morgans, coffees from Snug cafe and bought chocolate at Coco West but other than that had to keep our distance because we visited during Covid19 pandemic. Will have to visit again to experience the other local businesses. Loved our break on Bowen.
Great Getaway
Was a great little get away and hope to be back soon! Great space for a pup. Thank you for everything
Relaxing and Warm
smooth check in and check out, very responsive when communicating with Jan. The place is very relaxing and feels very warm. We turned off our phones and just soaked in the view and the peace that this place gave us. We really appreciate the people who take care of this place :)
Beautiful Sunset Views
A beautiful place to watch the sunset.
A Perfect Winter Getaway
We returned to Eastman Cottage after a few years away and LOVED it. Such a great cozy place with gorgeous views. A perfect winter getaway! The host was responsive to any questions and had some great little touches including fresh flowers and a welcome back treat ❤️ We will definitely be back!
Historical Experience
amazing historical experience, great views, kitchen is well equipped, overall a great place to spend some time!
Perfect Getaway
We had a wonderful stay at this cottage. It was was super easy to book, clean, and just incredibly beautiful everywhere you looked - both inside the cabin, and also of course outside. I can only reiterate what others have said in their reviews - this is the perfect getaway for those looking to cozy up on a couch in front of a fire and look out the window. From the family photos to the hand painted furniture, to the selection of books on the shelf, it was so evident to that this space is very much so loved by its owners and you really feel that when you stay there. We definitely hope to visit again sometime!
Incredibly Private Cabin
The private waterfront location was stellar. While neighbours are nearby, you would never know it. Quiet community with incredible privacy at the cottage . . . you really feel away, even though you are less than an hour from the city. The rustic cottage was perfect for my family, well appointed, but not fussy. There is nothing I would recommend to change and we already have tried to book a return trip (but it was booked for the weekend we targeted, a few months in future!).
2nd stay at this comfortable cottage
Second time staying at this property and just as good as the first! Great view, comfortable cabin and Jan is great!
Amazing
Amazing place - quiet, private, great view, and very cozy cabin!
Amazing Cottage And Views
Such a beautiful space and location! Absolutely amazing cottage and views. Would love to go back over and over again!
Like Our Childhood Cottage
We had a wonderful stay at the cottage. It is beautiful, isolated, and peaceful. The decor is so rustic and personal that it reminded us of our childhood family cottages. The view is incredible and we saw many seals, eagles, and other types of birds. We cannot recommend this cottage enough, it is definitely worth a trip.
Private and Charming
Charm and privacy and everything you need for a lovely stay. Simple comfort and an incredible view. Visits from a heron, hummingbirds and seals! Completely delightful
Wonderful
Just a wonderful place to stay. The cottage is very cute and well set up and the setting is fantastic. Charles was next door and was very kind and welcoming when we ran into him.
Cozy Cabin
We absolutely loved our cozy stay and will absolutely go back in the future. It felt like we were in the middle of nowhere, while still being a quick 5min drive to all amenities. It was perfect.
So Private
Beautiful little spot that felt so private and sweet. Loved the view and the sweet well water! Great spot for a couple or family getaway.
Wonderful Vacation Place
Eastman Waterfront Cottage is a wonderful place to vacation. The views are superb and the Cottage has every imaginable convenience.
Incredible Scenery
Had a terrific time at the cabin. Scenery was incredible. The cabin was very cozy and comforting. I would highly recommend Charles cabin who are looking for a getaway in to nature and wants to wind down from the hustle bustle.
Perfect for a Solo Writing Retreat
The Eastman cottage was the perfect setting for my solo writing retreat! The cottage is clean, cozy and full of history. The views are just stunning and the cottage is very comfortable with all the necessary amenities. Jan was very easy to communicate with and friendly. The cottage is private and in close proximity to wonderful walks around Killarney Lake. Will be back!
Beautiful Waterfront Place
Beautiful water front place, very well equipped and very cozy. Jan and Charles were very accommodating and helpful!
Historic Family Cabin with Great Views
Exactly What We Needed
The Eastman cabin was exactly what we needed! A cozy and quiet retreat with spectacular views (even better than the pics!). The cabin was exactly as advertised and had everything we needed, including lots of cozy blankets to curl up with in the chilly winter months. The hosts do a great job of providing information about everything you could possibly need. The cabin is a quick and easy drive to civilization for groceries, coffee, bars and restaurants. Many artists on the island to lots of art to experience. The ferry was very easy to use (we were first time car ferry folks). We did 2 days on Bowen Island and 2 days in downtown Vancouver - a perfect way to experience the area!
Incredible View
We had such an amazing time at the Eastman Cottage on Bowen Island. It was very clean & stocked with all the necessities. Jan & Charles were so great about communicating before the trip to make sure we had all of the info needed for our stay, plus some. Our favorite thing about the cottage was the incredible view! We sat on the deck for hours at a time just taking in the natural beauty... We saw seals, an otter, deer, and lots of different birds. We didn't ever want to leave! Thank you so much for sharing your family home with us, we can't wait to visit again.
Better than the Pictures
The amazing cottage was even better than the pictures!! The view perfect, quiet, relaxing, restful. Cottage had all amenities needed yet we spent nearly every moment on the deck. Would recommend this for anyone who loves a view and nature and relaxation. Great hikes in the area and great food in town.
Incredible View
The host made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived! The view from the home is even more incredible in person. The directions to the cottage were easy to follow, and it provided for a comfortable and relaxing stay.
Amazing Place
This cottage is an amazing place - just the right size, place and style to relax and enjoy the beautiful landscape around. Our family of 4 had a thoroughly great stay here and look forward to visiting again. We saw eagles and seals right off the porch and loved the laid back nature of Bowen Island altogether.
Sooo Relaxing
Most relaxing two days I've spent in a long time!! The cottage was clean, easy to find, right in the water. We went swimming at high tide off the rocks out front! Highly recommend.
Historical Cabin ~ Loved it!!!
We had a truly magical stay at Eastman Waterfront Cottage. The cottage was delightfully cozy and the views could not have been more stunning. The family history attached to the cottage made it even more special and we felt very privileged to be able to experience it. We will be back! :-)
A Story Book Cabin
The Eastman Family Cottage is wonderful, like something from a story book. Furnished with family heirlooms, very cozy, with breathtaking views whether rain or shine. The house is near the end of the road and feels quite private. We appreciated the well-stocked kitchen and numerous thoughtful details throughout. Jan was very easy to communicate with, and made sure we had everything we needed. We hope to be back someday!
Lovely Cabin
This cabin is lovely. We enjoyed reading about the cabin's history and seeing old photographs - it was very special. The cabin warmed up quickly, which was perfect for the colder January weather. This rental is worth every penny for the view alone. as the photos show exactly what you can expect. We stood on the back porch drinking coffee and watching ferries cross, bald eagles swoop down, and seeing (maybe?) an otter bopping around in the water. Nearby, there is a farm with sheep that greet you at the fence as you walk or drive by. We ate amazing BBQ burgers at the Bowen Island Pub after a satisfying hike around Killarney Lake. We recommend Bowen Island and this cabin for anyone looking for some quiet and time to connect with nature. Again, we recommend the cabin highly. The only thing we struggled with (and perhaps it was actually in the description that we missed) was how to work the vintage oven. There are no temperatures listed, just a scale 1-5, and the largest stove top burner was not working. Also, the bathroom is European style with a shower that isn't enclosed - just has a curtain to separate you from the toilet. But it worked well enough! It was sort of a fun adventure.
Authentic Cabin
This authentic, unpretentious cabin was as idyllic as Bowen Island. We arrived at night to wake up to the most breathtaking view! Enjoying fresh coffee from the local roastery on the deck looking out, wrapped in comfy blankets, was heavenly. The crisp water from the deep well was indeed restorative. The family's grandmother's hand painted furniture made all the difference. Snug Harbor is small and select in it's Starbucks here!! We made friends with a local clothing artisan, the local Ruddy Potato market has organic, fresh ingredients, and the local bistro is a gem. Galleries abound as well. I'm ready to become a Bowen Island citizen! (or at least look forward to another visit until I retire here!)
Loved this Rustic Cottage
We loved this rustic cottage on the water. It was so cozy and peaceful. It was easily the highlight of our summer vacation and I wish we had stayed twice as long. 5/5 stars.
Solitude
It's difficult to explain just how special this place is. My husband and I felt privileged to have the opportunity to experience this slice of solitude and beauty. Everything, from the stunning view to the cleanliness & awesome tape collection, was perfect. Thanks for letting us experience Bowen Island.
Provided Coffee
A cozy, happy little place to stay warm and dry while a storm blew outside on Bowen. Great location and hosts who provided every detail we'd need to know before the stay. Lots of amenities, and they provided coffee-- the one thing we forgot and were SO happy they had for us there!
A Real Gem
This little cottage is a real gem in a very private waterfront setting. It was very clean and provisioned well for our stay. We'll definitely recommend it to friends
Fantastic
The Eastman Cottage was fantastic. We arrived at night to find a quaint, well-maintained, and thoughtfully decorated home. We immediately felt comfortable and delighted with our surroundings. The next morning, we woke up to the most incredible view. This place is great. We hope to stay here again one day!
Authentic
Amazing place with authentic character everywhere you looked. Views are unbeatable. The cottage was very well kept and contained everything you could possibly need, I even found a pizza cutter! The binoculars were a nice touch to watch the seals that swam by. Can’t wait to go back!
Beautiful Cabin & View
Squeaky clean cabin, beautiful views, everything we needed to decompress. Recommended +++
