Our family of four enjoyed a perfect Christmas in this cosy house. The kitchen had everything we needed (and more) to cook a full turkey dinner. The beds were comfortable. The location was very peaceful and the view was spectacular, featuring beautiful sunrises. The deck is huge and we certainly would have spent a great deal of time there if we had visited during the warmer months. The fireplace was definitely a highlight and added great ambiance to an already cosy and warm house.
This cabin was beautiful with amazing views! It was well equipped with everything we needed including a fireplace with a fire log provided for each nights stay as well as the beds were very comfortable to sleep in! We spent a lot of time on the large deck enjoying the views, the sunrise was gorgeous. Short walk to the beach and hiking trails all around were an added bonus. We would definitely recommend this cabin to anyone that wants a beautiful getaway weekend that is so close to the city! We loved the cabin and Bowen Island itself! Thanks to the owner who was very quick to respond and made sure we had everything we needed!
Our only reason for visiting Bowen Island was because I found this cottage on VRBO and it did not disappoint us. Bowen is so beautiful, peaceful and friendly. We looked forward to our mornings on the deck with coffee and the evenings with wine. Cottage was very clean and comfortable with everything we needed. We hope to be back and stay here again. Dawn and Robert Altiero
The view in this cottage is magnificent with the morning sun. It was well stocked, very clean and had everything we needed for a wonderful vacation. As there were six of us and lots of meals, we would welcomed a dishwasher. The trails in the back of the property made for a wonderful hike and, loved the proximity to the village, although the hike may be difficult for some coming back. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home.
We enjoyed our stay in this cottage and Bowen Island. It has a very beautiful view and is located at a great location. We spent a lot of time on the deck, looking the boats and ferries come and go. The cottage provided everything we need. The kitchen is well equipped that provides more than enough utensils for us to cook almost every night. It was lovely to have dinner on the deck, looking out the beautiful night scene of West Vancouver. Although everyone said how nice the sunrise is, don't miss the moon rise too. We were lucky to get a perfect timing to see the moon rise, and see how the moon beamed over the sea, the deck and part of the house. It was absolutely beautiful! Every morning, we hiked up the little trail behind the house. We also walked up to Dorman Point and then followed the Dorman trail to Snug Cove. It is a well maintained and marked trail, not too difficult. We also spend an afternoon hiking from Snug Cove to Killarney Lake and walk around it. We enjoyed every moment there. The cottage provided us a comfy and nice place after all the activities we did during the day. We did not feel bored even after staying there for 5 days. Indeed, there were many things we haven't tried this time such as sea kayaking and hiking to Mt.Gardner. We will definitely go to Bowen Island again, and would love to stay here again.
We were five people spanning three generations and all had a great time staying at Evergreen Cottage. Space on the deck was fabulous for small people with big ideas. The views from living areas and deck was gorgeous, and a shower with the window opened to the forest was my favourite. Beds really comfortable, We explored several little coves, and the kids (under 5) had a great time also at the community school play area.
My husband, baby, and I stayed here for a week. If you are looking for a place to relax and not do too much, I'd highly recommend it. The views of the water and quiet location were wonderful. It felt very safe and secluded, but wasn't far to drive into town. You could certainly walk to town, but we didn't. Staying on Bowen Island was a lovely treat for us.
This large cottage was exactly as advertised, close to town (great walk if you like hills and exercise), very clean and a wonderful place to sit and enjoy the view. Jan was helpful and replied quickly to a number of questions. A Halmark movie was being filmed in town, so that added some excitement.
We had such a nice time at the cottage. The view is amazing!!! The location was perfect & fairy close to the little village. We enjoyed many of the restaurants, pubs & shops on Bowen Island. We also enjoyed a great walk along the coast on the other side of the Island. What a great little getaway. Thanks very much. Kristen, Johanne & Christy
The view is fantastic - you can see Horseshoe Bay in the distance, ferries and sailboats, and a great expanse of sky if you like to gaze at the stars at night. The deck is generous and there is ample seating. The cottage itself is quaintly rustic, very clean, comfortable, and there is a well-equipped kitchen. Wi-Fi works well, as does the TV. Beds are comfortable, the fridge/freezer is large and comes with a Brita filter; and there is a stacking washer/dryer. If you have a large family, the only drawbacks could be no dishwasher, and only one bathroom; but for most, not a problem. Location is 5 min. drive from the ferry terminal and lots of shops, restaurants, and hiking trails to keep you entertained. I would definitely recommend this cottage and hope to return again next year!
The view from the deck was stunning! Short ferry ride from Vancouver and once ypu arrive you instantly feel like youre away from the hustle of the city. Quiet, serene, and walking distance to the town. There is a very beautiful hike to do to the Lake and lots of little places to visit. The cabin was cozy with the fire !
Positives: The deck is huge and the view is beautiful - watching the water traffic all day and night from those red Muskoka chairs was lovely. *You should know - this is not a waterfront home. There is the driveway in front then the street, then other properties - then water. You can't here the waves - you can only see the water (through power lines). There are 3 good size rooms, and the one we stayed in had a very comfortable queen size bed - and TV. The bathroom was great - I am a bathtub person - so a nice deep tub is a real treat, and enjoyed - the shower was also good. Peaceful and quiet - you could see neighbours on both sides, be we never heard them. Disappointments: - Fire place was wonderful to look at - but we were NOT aloud to burn anything in it. - You can walk to the ferry - but not if you need to have your luggage for a week with you. It is more than 20 min (as per google) and the terrain would be treacherous if you had a suitcase. - no Tissue box (use what we had - then toilet paper was used) - no hair drier (stayed in VRBO's from Florida to Sooke - never had to worry about bringing mine) Flat hair was the style for the week! - no lighter for the BBQ (there were short little wooden matches, but you had to lift the grill to reach the area to light the fire - since the ignition was not working) Oddity, but may be the Island way... When we arrived, all windows and doors were open and unlocked - it was a very hot day -and we assumed that it was all left open to let the air through - we contacted Jan to confirm (after doing a walk through of all the rooms - all seemed to be okay).
The Evergreen Cottage while not a waterfront property does have gorgeous water views. Relaxing on the large cedar deck is a great spot to enjoy the shipping traffic and quiet natural surroundings. The cottage is located in a peaceful rural neighbourhood allowing our guests the quiet getaway they desire. We find the Adirondack chairs to be exceptionally comfortable too. We always learn from our guest reviews and find them helpful for us to improve our future guests’ stay so thank you for the valuable feedback. Fires in the fireplace are allowed October through the end of April. We provide a 3-hour log for each night of our guest’s stay. Guests do appreciate the mood it gives during the colder, rainier months. May through September we do NOT allow fires in the fireplace. A hairdryer is provided and located in the dresser drawer in the master bedroom. Going forward we will make sure it is left in an easy to see location; “Flat hair” is not allowed even on Bowen! Happy to provide nose tissue for our guests. We have added it to our shopping list. The cottage is only a 20-minute walk from Snug Cove and handy to arrive without a car for guests that have packed lightly. You are right; wheeled luggage would not be practical to pull along our country roads to the cottage. For our guests that arrive without a car and don't pack light, we recommend calling the Bowen Land Taxi for a lift. Meanwhile, our guests do enjoy the proximity to the town center for shopping, dining and getting their exercise at the same time. Lighting the propane BBQ is simple with stick matches: turn on the gas, drop the lit match next to the burner……..poof…..the BBQ will ignite. Bowen is known for being VERY safe, and most homeowners do not lock their doors at all. Shhh, don't let the word out. On this unusually hot day, our housekeeper didn’t give it a second thought and wanted our guests to arrive at a cooler accommodation, so she left doors and windows open. We can understand that most visitors from the city would be surprised at this island way, but it indeed shows how safe and secure Bowen Island locals feel. Questions or challenges? We love the Evergreen Cottage! So convenient to the Snug Harbor ferry landing yet very private and quiet! Property Manager Jan is super - very accommodating and efficient. We will continue to rent from her and her excellent properties. This trip was actually during a rare snow-storm on Bowen and we were prepared with meals/beverages/firewood so all was great. Luckily, we maintained power for all the necessities! The view of the passing BC Ferries and the Lower Mainland is wonderful. We will definitely be back!
We just returned from a birthday weekend getaway. It was our first time at the Evergreen Cottage and on Bowen Island. We had a nice mixture of relaxing by the fire sipping wine and looking out at the spectacular view as well as trying out some of the local hikes/walks. The first day we walked along some trails near the Byers Community Watershed into old growth forest and the second day brought us to the scenic and quite easy Killarney Lake loop. We were struck by how well maintained all of the trails were. As for Evergreen Cottage, we found it to be clean, cozy and nicely stocked with most amenities you will need for a comfortable stay. The floor to ceiling windows look out onto a huge deck and spectacular view of the water and mainland. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to be back. Thank you Jan for allowing us to stay in your piece of paradise and for helping us to have a memorable stay.
Evergreen Cottage is a wonderful place for a getaway on Bowen Island. There are three bedrooms (one with a queen bed, one with a double bed and one with two single beds) and a shared bathroom, a good sized living dining area and a huge deck. Bed linens and towels are supplied. The kitchen is cosy but very well appointed, with a great variety of pots, pans and kitchen utensils (everything needed to cook just about anything). There is a washer-dryer and Weber BBQ (which we used to cook a roast on the deck) as well. We stayed as a party of four adults and did quite a bit of cooking at the Cottage, but also walked down to Snug Cove for some meals as well. You can walk down to Snug Cove via tracks through the forest (the short way, beautiful but steep) or via the road (a bit longer (1.1km) but not as steep as the forest tracks). We are looking forward to when we can next get over to Bowen Island to stay at the lovely Evergreen Cottage.
Nothing but great things to say! I put up people for a work trip and they absolutely loved it. Jan was great to deal with and very accommodating!
Thank you so much, Josh. I am glad we were able to accommodate your staff. Would love to have your group return as our guests again. Best, Jan
We drove from Lawrence, Kansas, to spend 3 weeks in Evergreen Cottage in September. We wanted to get away to someplace as different geographically as possible (with mountains and sea) and pretend we lived in a different country for a while… yet be able to take our dog with us. It was a great retreat! A few things we really liked about the cottage — first, of course, the beautiful deck overlooking the sound. The weather was fantastic (low 60s), and we spent a lot of time out there and ate a few meals at the table on the deck. The deck wraps around and has a gas grill and extra fridge that aren't shown in any of the photos. The inside of the cottage feels roomy and open for its size. There's a nice sized dining table and well-equipped kitchen. The utility room forms a loop, creating a nice flow. We used one of the extra bedrooms as an office when we weren't working outside. We loved the huge windows and gorgeous view but were glad to have the solar shades in the front during sunny mornings! We explored most of the island, and the location of the cottage is great—it’s in a quiet area not as tightly packed with homes as some other areas with rentals, and it’s less than a 15 minute walk down to the cove. It's also a very convenient walk or drive to restaurants (we really liked the Bowen Island Pub and Doc Morgans), a general store, bakery, deli, liquor store, pet store, and pharmacy. We brought binoculars, but the little telescope in the cottage came in handy, too. We spotted a bald eagle the first day, then mostly Steller’s Jays, vultures, ravens, deer, and we saw some orcas being followed by a whale-watching boat. Friendly neighbor cat passed by almost every day. We would definitely recommend taking a walk on “The Cape on Bowen” trails on the southwest side of the island, which has beautiful views of the strait and Pebble beach. But the cottage is also just a short walk away from great hikes down to the marina, and there are trails right off the back yard, which our dog loved. It was a fun place to visit for 3 weeks, and we could get used to the island life!
We have stayed at Jan's other space many times "The Lazy Bowen" and love that space our first time here and wow what a cute little spot… spectacular deck view and amazing network of trails just off the property (which our dog Chloe thoroughly enjoyed!) Thanks again Jan! Until next time 😊
We were looking for a place to spend a relaxing week while our kids were at camp and decided Evergreen Cottage on Bowen Island checked all the right boxes. A quick ferry from Horseshoe Bay and we arrived at the house within minutes of landfall. (I would recommend driving on as it was more to park in HB and it was convenient to have a car available.) The cottage, while modest and rustic, was clean and full of mid-century charm. The property manager was one step ahead of us with every detail and made the entire experience perfectly seamless and worry free. Besides being a well equipped and comfortable house, the best feature by far was the hours we spent relaxing on the huge private deck overlooking the water and coastline of West Van. Sea kayaking around Snug Cove, hiking and milling about the quaint village gave us plenty of options to make our stay most enjoyable. This property is an outstanding value and we will definitely be back for another stay in the future!
I stayed in Evergreen Cottage for two weeks by myself and it was really lovely. The cottage is super comfortable and smells lovely and clear with the cedar walls - the living room is full of light and the morning sun on that huge deck was brilliant. It is very well appointed - I enjoyed cooking and living there - I would have happily traded the television for firewood every night as the fireplace works really efficiently and has so much atmosphere. I had no car and the walk into town was really lovely - through forest and a good workout at the same time. I was sad to leave. And I see someone suggested a hot tub - what a good idea - on the deck - then it would be super amazing. Deer in the yard, eagles overhead. The views are beautiful. Thankyou.
We enjoyed Bowen island. The house is terrific . We plan to return.
Thank you so much, Doug for taking the time to leave your review. The water view is very special with all the BC ferry, freighter and cruise ship activity. Relaxing on the deck, taking in the fresh Bowen air, and enjoying the peacefulness of the Evergreen Cottage is very special indeed.
A great getaway. Lots of room and cozy fire, - a spectacular view and close to the cove. The only thing missing is a hot tub... that would really make it spectacular. Thanks so much!
Erin, thank you for being our guests. Be sure to come back in the summer to enjoy the spacious deck with the gorgeous views. Thanks so much for taking great care of the Evergreen Cottage. Love to have you and your friends back any time. Jan and Maureen.
Hello Dear Reader and Fellow Traveler. First, the disclaimer that we had no prior relationship with the family or the owner of this property so this is a completely unsolicited and extemporaneous review and recommendation. We were invited to celebrate the wedding of a lifelong friend's son and his lovely wife to be so we were heading to Bowen Island because that is where the ceremony was taking place. Finding Evergreen Cottage was pure serendipity and one of the nicest most pleasant surprises we have ever experienced. Maureen the proprietress is warm, friendly, incredibly helpful and also cognizant of the fact that people come to enjoy the space her home provides and makes it feel like home by attending to virtually all the details such an experience would afford. If you like a well appointed pine paneled cottage style home in which to spend a week, then we strongly encourage you to consider Evergreen. The views Maureen has offered you from the web site if anything are less stunning and spectacular than the actual views and environment you will experience when sitting out on the deck and watching the BC Ferries, sail and power boats and all the shipping traffic moving along in the 20-25 mile plus vistas you have to enjoy with all the mountains in the background. If you are also an active person who loves life outdoors, hiking, kayaking, biking, boating, golf and all the other pleasures of island living are at your disposal, just 30 minutes off Horseshoe Bay and an hour from downtown Vancouver. If you want to live car-free for the week, yet still be within range of the High Street shops and restaurants, this is the place you need to choose. It is a 1-something kilometer walk into town and everything is accessible on foot or by island transport while still being completely in a tranquil setting. Hearing nothing but wind in the trees, birdsong and the occasional ferry horn in the distance is beyond relaxing. Highest endorsement from us both with our warmest thanks to Maureen for making our time on Bowen memorable, spiritually renewing, physically relaxing and one that we added after the fact to OUR lifetime must see destination bucket list.
We stayed at the cottage for a couple days and we could felt the bustle of city life shed from our lives the moment we walked in. The view is beautiful, the path in to woods is the perfect way to start the morning and it is easily walkable to Snug Cove in case you don't want to cook or want to mull around town. Our dog Otis loved it so much he ran back up to the patio when we were leaving! We'll be back for more relaxing times!
Great location nestled up out of the way of the road. Huge deck with a great view through the large windows and lovely sunrise that really warmed the mornings during our winter stay. Very clean with all the comforts of home that keep you connected but it still feels like you are away from it all. Pet friendly. Our old dog loved the deck. Wish the fire logs had more heat or real wood could be burned in the fireplace. Definitely coming back.
thank you Michael so glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at Evergreen cottage Dogs seem to love the property as much as the other guests the deck the trails on the property maybe not the view as much as you but so glad you have booked another stay with us, look forward to seeing you again in May Maureen
A lovely setting on Bowen Island with views south towards the city of Vancouver. Great close-in parking to the house for easy carry in luggage. Loved the big deck for viewing, and meals. Easy walk down to the beach, September morn. Cozy late evenings while watching TV. Kitchen had all the appliances and utensils. A true pearl on Bowen Island. Love to come back.
glad you enjoyed the property Anders, hope you are able to return in the near future
We had a wonderful stay at this cottage. The pictures don't really do it justice. It has three very comfortable rooms, a wonderfully equipped and updated kitchen, updated bathroom and magnificent view. We watched the full moon rise over West Van from the couch. The deck is huge. Our only complaint is that we couldn't burn real wood in the fire - it was a cold weekend. Fire logs are provided but not quite the same. But overall we were very impressed.
very nice to hear you had a great time Brad. It is never long enough but please return sometime would love to have you again. We provide the logs for ambience rather than to heat as every room has its own thermostat even the kitchen floor. From Sept/Oct to May/june depending on rainfall we supply one log per night that burn for 3 hrs. In the hot summer dry months there is a ban on fires as we live in a forest but that what makes it a special place to visit
