We do recommend that you purchase the majority of your groceries from the mainland as the island grocery stores are more expensive. After all, every item includes a transportation cost. The island grocery stores are perfect for filling in on the items that you may have forgotten. Although, I have purchased every item needed for a Thanksgiving feast right on Bowen. You will find the full array of groceries on-island required to prepare a special meal.

SNUG COVE GENERAL STORE

Hours: 8:00 am - 8:30 pm daily
Located right in the heart of Snug Cove you will find Fresh meat, produce, groceries, liquor agency and lottery tickets.
The meat quality is excellent at the General Store. If you are gluten free they have a great selection of products.
THE RUDDY POTATO WHOLE FOODS MARKET & DELI CAFE

Located in Village Square at the corner of Trunk Road and Dorman Road.
Fresh, local, healthy and organic. Local produce, artisan breads, meats, poultry, Oceanwise fresh fish, groceries and healthcare products. If you don't want to cook, Ruddy Kitchen Meals to-go are a great option, including mains such as lasagna, pizza, roast chicken, curries, chillies, soups and fresh-made desserts. Enjoy coffees, cold beverages, lunch and sweet treats in the Café & Deli. Or pick up your fixings for a picnic.

As you go up the winding driveway past the free-range chickens, you'll know you're visiting an authentic country shop. The tiny Alderwood Speciality Food Shop is packed with high-quality and organic groceries, teas, condiments, nuts & seeds and gift items, too. The kitchen makes a delicious selection of soups, dips, sauces, pies, baked goods and main dishes, including lasagna, moussaka, pizza, and curries – many are vegan or vegetarian! You'll also fine a small selection of fresh meats, deli cold cuts and, of course, free-range eggs, including the occasional very large emu egg. Alderwood Farm is a great place to pick up picnic foods before heading to the western beaches.

All fermentation, blending, and bottling happens on-site by experienced Cidermakers Alastair Johnstone and eldest son Benjamin, aided by younger son Nicholas. Our team consists of family members and close friends with a long history on the island who assist with all aspects of the business and the farm.

A mix of fresh produce from local farms and gardens as well as homemade jams, baked goods, preserves, coffee, garden crafts, tea, seedlings, herbs, buskers and more! Every Saturday, 10am-12pm.
